The skills to evolve your parenting, and bring out your child’s spark
Relational parenting arises from a number of sources. Firstly is the influence of Gestalt, especially values of authenticity, deepening relationship, and differentiated responsibility. Secondly developmental psychology which encompasses a broad range of influences including Reich, Erikson, Kohut, Stern, Wollcott, and many more. Thirdly, contemporary understanding of brain science and child development, for instance Seigal and Medina. We also draw from a wide range of parenting theories and practices, old and new. We have our clinical therapeutic experience, and finally, there is our own ground – 35 years of parenting, step-parenting and now grandparenting.
Out of this we have devised a framework. These are helpful pivot points, but we don't consider them written in stone. They are a launching point for exploration, understanding of self, and dialogue. Our interest is in supporting each parent to find the right mix for themselves, rather than dictating a new set of 'shoulds' regarding parenting. Our focus is on self awareness and attention to experience, rather than abstract theory. We want to support you to enjoy your parenting, and be more skilled in raising lively, loving and responsible children.
